The community sits astride the main A40 trunk road from Haverfordwest approximately 6 miles south of  Fishguard. Letterston was established in the early medieval period by the Lettard family, from where the village derives its name. The older part of the village sits to the west of the A40, along St Davids Road, including St Giles Church. There were also two chapels, both unfortunately closed. The western part of the village flourished after the opening of a railway station in 1895, leading to the street being named Station Road. The station was finally closed in 1964, but parts of the route and station buildings can still be seen. During WWII, there was a small prisoner of war camp for Luftwaffe aircrew, parts of which still survive at Bwlch y Defaid (private property) at the west of the village.

A memorial outside St Giles Church on St Davids Road commemorates the 12 men from the parish who died during WWI and WWII, three of whom are buried in the churchyard. 

Letterston Community Council sits 7:30pm on the third Monday of the month, except August and December.
